X15 remote backlight turns on randomly

We have a new Xfinity cable box in our bedroom. The backlight on the remote has turned on when the TV is off and we aren't touching the remote. Being a light sleeper, this has woken me up.

 

Has anyone else seen this? Is there a way to prevent it?

it is triggered on by motion of the remote.
