X1 with old SD TV (Is there a COAX/AV to HDMI Converter?)
We recently switched to X1 and hooked up our 22-year-old television to the new cable box.
I want to share our experience, ask a question, and maybe get some general advice or feedback.
Our setup:
New X1 box: XG1-A
New voice remote: XR15
Old television: 27” Magnavox TP2785CI (no HDMI port)
Connection: Coax cable connection or AV cable connection
Question: I know my old TV is not capable of HD, and that an HD TV is the answer to “all our problems,” but does an inexpensive converter exist that would allow us to connect our non-HDMI television to the HDMI port of the X1 cable box? If so, how would I know I was buying the correct one (that converts in the correct direction)?
I mostly want to test if a converter will allow us to turn off the cable box remotely. Has anyone had success with a converter?
(More details in the comments, about our setup and experience...)

We have tried two types of connections, with success, using our old TV and new X1 cable box:
-Using the red/white/yellow (on both ends) AV cable with the “input” or TV channel set to “AV” or “EXT”
-Using the COAX cable that was included in the “Self-Install Kit,” and channel 3 on the TV (this channel took some work to get to on our TV).
In both cases, we cannot get the cable box to POWER OFF “by itself” because currently, the X1 remote comes programmed to turn ON the cable box, but not OFF.
I know that if we use an HDMI connection, we CAN program the cable box to turn itself off using the “HDMI Device Control” setting (Xfinity button>Settings gear>Device Settings>Power Preferences), but
without an HDMI connection, these are the only ways we figured out to power off the cable box:
-Manually, using the button on the cable box
-Selecting SLEEP NOW with the remote (Xfinity button>Settings gear>Device Settings>Power Preferences) then using a non-Xfinity remote to turn off the TV
-Saying or whispering "Sleep" using the voice remote to select SLEEP NOW, then using a non-Xfinity remote to turn off the TV
-Turning off the TV with the X1 remote, then using the VOICE function of the remote to say “SLEEP," then, with the TV off, pushing the Right, then Enter button on the X1 remote
Did I miss one? Is there another way to turn off the cable box “remotely” with a non-HDMI connection? Or is there a shortcut I'm overlooking?

The first thing we did to watch on our “outdated” TV is to change the video display to 4:3, 480p (Xfinity button>Settings gear>Device Settings>Video Display).
We prefer this display because the picture looks fine and the guide and on-screen menus look “normal” to us--not stretched or condensed--but there are a few things we can’t do in “4:3 480p,” that I thought a converter MIGHT fix.
Among other things, WITHOUT AN HDMI CONNECTION:
-We cannot use the APPS (like YouTube) through the cable box UNLESS we change the video display to “16:9” and if we DO change the video display to “16:9,” the on-screen menus are often cut off
-We cannot access the “mini guide” (using the right arrow on the remote) while in our preferred resolution of 480p
-And like I said before, we cannot set the cable box to turn off automatically when the TV is turned off (no matter what video display we use)
Anyone else discover things they can/can’t do with a non-HDMI connection?

Modern cable boxes never really turn off anymore. Even old ones never did either. At best, all they really did is turn off the display.
