X1 TV without gateway ?

I have an elderly friend of mine that currently has Xfinity X1 TV and internet through her HOA. They just changed to Hotwire and she is not happy about that. If she keeps the X1 TV service, does she still need Xfinity internet ? She will be using Hotwire for her computer. She does not do any TV streaming, just watches regular TV and uses DVR. She has 4 TV boxes.
