x1 streaming speed

When I access a streaming service like Netflix using the X1 box, the screen reminds me that I am entering a third party app.  My question is about the streaming speed.  Is the streaming speed on the X1 box tied to the plan speed I get from my internet modem?  If I up my internet plan will the TV go faster?  Or is the X1 box independent of the internet modem?

Hello @mgilberg, thank you for reaching out for help with your account connections. When it comes to streaming from the X1 device, you are correct in thinking that it's independent of your internet speed. Each device should have its own coax connection that supplies it with a signal, and that is where it will obtain its information from. Typically, aside from wireless devices, the X1 device isn't connected to the modem at all and uses a different type of connection than your modem would.

So doing things like upgrading/downgrading your internet speed should not affect the way the X1 device functions.

Thanks, that's very helpful.  My next question is about data usage.  Does streaming on the X1 TV box count toward my data monthly usage, or does data usage count only for the internet modem?

@mgilberg Yes, streaming content from your X1 counts toward your monthly data usage (Netflix, YouTube, etc..)
