x1 recording old instead of new episodes

I have looked on this forum and see that the explanation is that the station where new episodes is running must be used to set up the recording.   That is just about the dumbest thing I have ever heard.  This is 2024 and Xfinity can't figure out how to fix this?   For instance, the local cbs station has at least 3, yes 3 channels on Xfinity.   I'm sure this is part of the reason for the problem.   I just switched from Directv streaming last month because of the contract dispute and this was not an issue.  I set up all of my programs to record and now I am going to have to monitor the recordings for this issue?   But honestly that is not my problem, Xfinity.  I have the Ultimate TV package and I shouldn't have to feret through the channel guide to find what I am looking for.   I should only have to view or have access to programs in my package which should exclude those in the other two packages.   Xfinity, you can do better.   I will remember this when my two year contract is up.

Is there a solution to this?

Welcome to our Community Forum, @pollytrnr! Thank you for reaching out so we can help with your recordings. When you set up a series recording, we give you the option to personalize it to your needs. These advanced settings include

    • Record: Record only new episodes or record new and repeat episodes.
    • Channels: Set your HD or SD channel preference.
    • Save: Save until space is needed or for one year.
    • Keep: Keep all episodes or keep multiple episodes.
    • Start: Start on time or start one or two minutes early.
    • Smargin: 0;">

Your guide will show all the channels you're subscribed to but some may be Pay Per View content. If you have our Ultimate TV package, you have all the channels included in our Choice and Popular TV packages as well.

Yes, I understand how to set up a recording, but it isn't that simple.  Your answer to the second question was how I understood it.  Please re-read my message as you seem to have missed the point.  If you have a questions please ask.

@pollytrnr Terribly sorry to cause more frustration with this. The best thing to do when setting up recordings is to visit the channel of the recording using the channel guide. Then scroll to the upcoming program to record it that way. Or by even saying in the voice remote the program and then select the record options (new episodes only).

The best way to avoid recording old episodes is to do it right from the channel the new ones air on. For example, if there is an upcoming new show on NBC, but that same show airs on an affiliate channel of the network, and the recording is set on the affiliate channel, it will only record shows on that channel.

I hope this answers all the concerns and if not please let us know. Have you been able to successfully record a new episode yet?

I no longer work for Comcast.
