x1 box making loud fan noise
recently moved and a tech came out and gave us a 'new' x1 dvr that makes a lot of fan noise. Can the fan be adjusted to be quieter or what can we do?

I have the same issue, and searching here tells me it's pretty common. the only way to get the fan to stop is to unplug it which means it can't record... kind of defeats the purpose of a DVR, but that's what i've been doing cuz the fan is so loud and annoying. i reached out to xfinity support today and they are sending me a replacement. i asked them to make sure it's not the same model and the rep said she's pass that request on to the tech support team, so we'll see if i get a different/quieter model.

it's not a problem with the 'model' it is just a fan bearing or hard drive for older DVRs with mechanical drive that causes the sound.

Thanks - swapped it out and got one that is quieter but still can hear the fan... I guess it's just what we'll have to endure. Once we received the 'new' one, the process of physically swapping it was waaaay too long on the phone with someone outside the USA.

is the set top box a DVR? if so is the front rectangular and has a clock? or a trapezoid with to surface wider than the bottom when viewed from the front and no clock?

if your DVR is hooked up via HDMI swap for a 4k xg1v4 (version 4) DVR. same price, smaller, uses a solid state drive not a spinning disk hard drive. no clock

I just swapped out a 3-year old box for a brand new one, and the fan runs constantly. White noise in my living room. I can't imagine what a wreck this would be if you had it in the bedroom. Are all new units like this?
