X1 Audio Sync Issues
Hello Comcast nerds! Looking for some help with audio issues I've been having for years.
On some HD channels my audio gets out of sync. The channels this happens on most often are TBS, TNT, MTV, TRU and Comedy. It does happen on others as well, but these are the ones that happen enough to be noticeable. When watching these channels, the audio will start to get ahead of the video. This is not a consistent delay. It may start by just a few milliseconds, but can get as wide as several seconds.
I can temporarily fix this by changing the auto format on the cable box/TV/ or sound bar. But it will go out of sync again within 30 minutes or faster.
This is only an issue on live, HD stream. DVR or Ondemand are fine. Applications on the X1 box are fine. TV built in Apps work fine. Xbox, Apple TV, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch all work fine. The audio issues only exist on live streams on certain channels.
I have rebooted the X1 box several times. I've replaced every cable. I have swapped out the box itself. Ive tried using my TV speakers and my sound bar. Nothing has fixed this.
It appears to happen when something between the breaks changes. I can see the status lights flash like it's detecting a change
My setup:
X1 4K DVR: XG1v4 (AX014AN) Firmare 106.1.1
TV: Vizio M50-D1 (4K UHD)
Sound Bar: Vizio 5.1 V2.6.2.1
X1 --> TV HDMI (input 2) --> Sound Bar Optical
Ive seen other posts where people have had a similar issue, but never found the answer.

is the TV's own audio also shifted? the audio streams (part of the mpeg2/mpeg 4 video/audio/CC/SAP/etc package) have 2 sync signals that are used by the audio device to sync audio to video. the 'sink' (TV to which the sound bar is connected) has an audio menu to permently put an offset + or - to the video. Have you tried swapping the HDMI cables (both) with one working on another device?

I had the same issue with a new sound bar, but only on the x1 side of programming. Blu-Ray, netflix, etc. all work ok.
I searched the interwebs and found that changing the x1 box audio output in the settings to stereo (was set up to automatic Dolby 5.1) fixes it, however obviously hurts the audio output. But I'd rather have slightly worse audio than audio out of sync as it felt like I was watching telemundo in English. The problem seems to be connecting inputs to TV, then to the sound bar via eARC cable. If pluggging device directly into soundbar HDMI input will work (versus directly into TV, then to soundbar), then the problem might fix itself, however if i do that I can not detect the X1 through the system on my samsung soundbar so it forces me to directly plug the X1 to the TV input.

I have this issue come up often and the way I fix is by rebooting the cable box. Which is a PITA! Does this mean the cable box is buggy or defective? I don't know. All I know is that I've had more issues since purchasing a new 4k tv and replacing the cable box. I wish my old non-4k tv never went on the fritz. I'm ready to throw all this stuff out the window! Frustrating...

do you mean lip sync is off? Tune to a major network show where you can hear spoken words with mouth visible. use the TV's remote and find the audio menu and lip sync adjustment and modify it +/- to get closest match. The TV remembers this setting per 'device' connected (HDMI ID).

I recently upgraded to Xfinity X1 and experineced the same issue with audio lagging the
video. I was able to resolve the issue by going into settings->Device settings->Audio->HDMI Audio Output and changed it to Expert mode (I am not using an external sound bar). This completlely
eliminated all of the delay and the audio is now in perfect sync wiht the video.

Hello, @DreamSayerZ, I can understand why you would be frustrated having to reset your box all the time. I will do my part to get your Xfinity cable service working to the quality we all expect. Please click on my name and use the send message option to send a private message. If you can include your name, account number, and service address I can help. We may need to have a tech fix a signal issue or replace that box.

I just got a new Samsun 75" QLED TV and I am having audio sync issues with numerous channels. The one I watch a lot is NBC and it is horrible, yet I flip to ABC and all is well. I have noticed the audio sync issues on FOX while watching football and a bit on CBS. I never experienced this with my Samsung 55", I just replaced.
I have disconnected my Sonos Play Bar hooked up optically.
I have changed to Sonos settings to 0 for audio delay, it appears as if I need negative number settings.
I have changed the X1 box to Expert for sound.
I have set the Audio delay to 0.
The audio is still behind the video. I do not experience this on my Blu-ray player, apple TV, or Amazon firestick.
I have not tried a new X1 box, should I?
Thanks

Problem resolved. After replacing the TV and DVR, which changed nothing I set the Audio Device settings to Stereo as opposed to Expert and it fixed the issue.

In addition to everything else mentioned below, I replaced the X1 box, didnt help. The only fix that works is to get out of "expert" mode and select stereo mode. I have two 4-8k Samsung TV's and a Samsung sound bar on one and a Sonos ARC sound bar on the other. Changed out HDMI cables to Quest cinimon 4k/8k cables, re-booted, adjusted sync - all to no avail. Switch to stereo and the lip sync issue resolved. Not the fix I wanted, full 5.1 dolby sound would be nice with lip sync issue corrected Not sure who is working on a fix.

I'm having the same problem. ABC and CBS seem to be the only channels I notice have an issue. The mouth of the actors and the audio don't match and it drives me crazy.
