Using a monitor without speakers for setup

I just upgraded my service from a cableCARD unit to X1.  However, my current monitor does not have built-in or integrated speakers.  Can I still use my current monitor to get my X1 set-top box and remote activated and set up, even though the monitor has no speakers?  (I will be purchasing a monitor with speakers as soon as my budget permits.)

As it turned out, I was able to purchase a VIZIO 25-inch monitor which has two HDMI ports!  As a result, I can now use the one monitor for both cable TV AND internet, switching back and forth between the two inputs as needed.  In short--problem solved!  Thanks for your prompt response to my initial question!

You should be able to but your box would need to have outputs for audio. How did you use audio with the TiVo?

My cableCARD unit was a Silicondust HD Homerun PRIME.  The sound was routed through my computer's sound card and speakers.  It is now clear tro me that I will have to wait until I get a new monitor before I can activate my X! box and remote.   I will concentrate my efforts on obtaining a monitor with either a soundbar or with integrated speakers as soon as possible.

if you could give more details of what you need, there is probably an inexpensive HDMI passthrough break out box for audio. the HDMI out of the set top box would go to the breakout box, then HDMI out to your monitor and audio output desired would be patched to your PC.

I should have added that this monitor DOES have speakers built-in!
