unplugged HDMI from cable box, plugged back in no signal

My husband found our old western digital hard drive and wanted to see what we had on it, so he unplugged the HDMI cable from our xfi DVR box and plugged it into the WD and we watched a few hours of stuff, he went to unplug the HDMI from the WD & connect it back to our cable box and now it says "no cable connected" on my screen, I reconnected all cords (coaxial, HDMI, power cord) and even rebooted multiple times but it still says "no cable connected" so something went wrong when we used the HDMI cord for our WD because now it won't connect the cable to the tv, I even switched HDMI cords to see if it was the cord, but it's not it's just not signaling/connecting whatever you want to call it and showing on my screen...need help please...

So the message 'no cable connected' is on your TV screen?  Have you checked the TV's input source?  Is it set for HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 and which is the cable from your cable box plugged in to?

yes I checked both, actually the one we have the HDMI plugged into is the only one available because the other one is blocked/covered up/plugged by a piece of hard plastic that came like that when we got it, I can take the plastic plug out but it's always been covered and I haven't had any issues before we disconnected the hdmi from the box and connected it to our western digital

so I have my cable connected to HDMI 1, and I have my firestick connected to HDMI 2, I've even switched them and still whichever hdmi cord that is connected to my box doesn't show as connected, my husband now thinks it the actual box but I don't see how it would stop working by just unplugging the HDMI cord for a few hours to plug it into something else

we were able to plug the same HDMI back to the western digital without any problems so my husband went to exchange the box this afternoon I just got around to hooking everything up, and the new remote was having a hard time pairing to the new box, weird cause they were both new, so I unpaired it, and then the remote worked but now when I try to activate the box, it says "it looks like we'll need to take care of a few details to complete your setup. you can give us a call" XRE-10000..
