TV turns on randomly on its’ own
Bought a Samsung TV in October and since then the TV turns on randomly, usually in the middle of the night when everyone is sleeping. Samsung tells me it is a cable box issue. xFinity tells me it is a television issue. Has anyone else had this experience and if so how did you resolve it?

Had the same problem last night. Installed a UL listed power strip controlled by a wireless remote so we can turn the power off to ONLY the TV when not in use. Without power, the TV better not automatically come on or we will have an even more serious problem!

Oh man. No power, TV on? A poltergeist situation. A serious problem, indeed.

The HDMI CEC automatic turn on function for the tv was already off. Any other ideas or solutions that worked for people? Thank you.

In the Sony 'network setup' section there is an option for 'remote start' to let casting from phones, etc. turn the TV on over the network. Turn that off if you don't use it. Also if you have installed the Alexa app and don't use it for voice control, uninstall it.
And make sure your firmware is up to date. (Settings>About>System software update).

I've had a Sony for a couple of years and I think it came on a couple of times by itself before I turned off the network setting. Then I installed the Alexa app and it did it several more times before I removed it. I do have HDMI CEC on because I use it to control the volume on my receiver which does not have good line of sight to the remote control - but that doesn't seem to affect power-on.

I had checked that setting (Remote Start) to verify it was off. I also ensured that no timers were set.
I had installed the Alexa app, but have never used it. I will remove it to be safe.
Funny thing is the tv came on at 5am exactly today, and the restart window for the X1 cable box Is 4am-6am, so I am suspecting some correlation. The only other time this happened (so far) was also within that 4am to 6am window.

Possibilities to consider for eliminating this HDMI poltergeist:
1 - Swap out the X1 and install HD-DTA in its place.
2 - Plug X1's output HDMI into an HDMI-switch/HDMI-capable-Receiver/HDMI-adapter that provides Analog Component Video+Audio out puts. Feed the TV input with those component+audio outputs. (If TV has component inputs 😐 )
3 - Disconnect HDMI from X1 to the TV - connect via Coax cable instead and watch everything in 4:3/SD/480i/fuzzy during daytime and then sleep soundly through the night without the HDMI poltergeist waking you. (Some viewers do not care about HD at all.)
4 - Review the movie "Poltergeist" from 1982.

**I was just informed in a post on this forum that a newer Xfinity remote, the xr15, that only has 1 power button, would solve my issue. I recommend trying the xr15 remote, if your TV is randomly turning back on.
[ FYI, If you read my prior posts you'll see we tried many other solutions, including removing the batteries from the Xfinity remote... that seemed to work sometimes, but the TV started turning back on, even with the remote batteries removed. We changed our TV settings, checked the HDMI cables, etc. Nothing worked.
Now, It's been almost 6 months since our TV turned on, as we now only use the TOP RIGHT POWER BUTTON on the XR11 remote. See above, and other posts]
