TV box rental

I purchased my own boxes but Xfinity will not activate them.  They informed me that I had to rent their TV boxes!

That is just wrong!

No I did not.   Do these require a cable card?   I do not see a place for one unless I remove the mesh covering and there is a mini card available that will fit that slot.

i do not see a card in the rental boxes from Comcast and these are the same boxes.
