Turn off X1 DVR OSD (On Screen Display)
Is there any way to turn off the graphic overlay that pops up every time you fast forward, skip or rewind on the X1? Pressing skip should just skip you forward - I don't need the screen to dim and a control panel to appear every time I do it.
You can easily bring up the OSD by click the down arrow, so on the off chance I really need it, it's readily accessible. But I certainly don't need my screen to dim and wait while the X1 animates its display appearing on every button press - it's annoying and slows down the process.
I just "upgraded" from the old Motorola DVR and while it would pop up a small progress bar, it was small, quick and easy to dismiss and did not cause the whole box to pause while it animated its reveal.

can't turn off the on screen elements. the old non-x1 handled all commands locally where x1 sends commands received to comcast's server and it tells the box what to do.

What I mean is to turn it off and stay off. Dismissing it is easy (up arrow) but the overlay process is not just distracting and useless in a "skip" scenario but actively slows down skipping, is it goes thru the entire overlay animation (overlaying a grey gradient, animating the "skip" graphic, animating the reveal of the scrubber and various option buttons, etc.)
It is clear that this process is timed - it takes about 1.5 seconds per skip event. If you want to skip forward two minutes (without using the voice commands), it takes about 6 seconds, even if you press the button 4 times rapidly. It does eventually stop trying to animate if there are enough skip commands in the buffer but it still takes 1.5 seconds per press. For non-cloud DVRs, this should be instantaneous. The Motorola DVR, released before 2007 (I wrote part of the Wikibook on it), handled it easily.
