Smart Resume resumes too soon

We have been enjoying Xfinity's "Smart Resume" feature, which semi-automatically skips commercials and returns to the next segment of the TV show, for years.

As of a month or 2 ago, it no longer works. It looks like it's going to work, but instead of resuming the show, it resumes too early, in the middle of a commercial. It does this on all our Xfinity boxes.

I see others have this problem. Comcast, are you listening? Could you please restore the correct functionality of Smart Resume?
