Set Top Box turns on on its own - Comcast spying on me?

My set Top Box XG1-A frequently turns itself back ON after it's been turned off. It usually happens a few hours after I power the STB off manually. Why???

X1 boxes don't really turn off. Or do you mean you put it in sleep mode?

My STB has an ON/OFF switch like most electronics. And NO I do not mean putting it to sleep. When I pressd the ON/OFF button and my STB is ON, a blue light comes on. When the STB is OFF the blue light goes out.

You are perhaps referring to the fact that many electronis don't actually turn OFF. That is not what I am referring to. When there is no picture on my TV then I call that the STB being OFF. When there is a picture on my TV screen I call that being ON. It's not rocket science, I know.

It's always been on "Default" (2-4 am). But these are not the times the STB turns itself ON. It happens mid day and early evenings.

Hello, @John1455!

I'm just going to chime in here on your random X1 TV box powering on concerns. It is definitely nothing to be alarmed about, however I can understand your concern! The X1 box will power on for updates, scheduled DVR recordings, or if it receives a signal from a neighboring remote control. The X1 box operates on aim anywhere technology, so it is possible to be turned on from another remote control not in the room.

The X1 system does have some great Power Saver features that can be set on the device. Here is a great link that will help guide you through the Power Saver function. https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/x1-power-preferences

I hope this helps, please let us know if you have any questions, or still have a concern!
