remote low battery warning

Yesterday my X1 box reported that my remote batteries are low. The Remote Settings screen says 26%.

I charged another set of batteries and replaced them, but it still shows the same level. I replaced them with an unused set of batteries, still 26%.

There was a similar thread from a year ago where one of the suggestions was to reset the X1 box. I tried that, but no help.

The remote is an XR15 with firmware version 2.2.34. Could it be a problem with the remote itself?

@Barmar It could definitely be the remote itself if you've tried other batteries and resetting the cable box. Another troubleshooting step is to factory reset the remote and pair it back to the cable box. We offer free replacements at your local Xfinity Store or we can ship a replacement out for a small, one-time fee.

I reset the remote, now it says 41% for all batteries I install. I'll try replacing the remote.

I went to the Xfinity Store. The new remote shows 100% for the non-rechargeable batteries that came with it. When I put in the rechargeables that I usually use, the levels vary between 54% and 68%. So the rechargeables may be getting old and not charging fully, but there did seem to be a problem with the old remote that it was saying 26%.
