remote does not light up with movement

When I replace batteries on my XR15 remote, the remote backlighting does not come on when I move it.  It only comes on when I touch a key.  Same thing happened last year but after I asked about it on Community, it started to work..  I received a new XR15 from Xfinity last Friday but I am unable to get it to work with my X1 4K DVR box.  Tried two new XR15s and neither works.  How do I fix the problem?
