Quick Household Update

I saw a few posts on this that were a year old and has been closed, but the issue seems to be back.  Recently I will be watching a show and suddenly get a blue screen with the message

Just a moment you've caught us in the middle of a quick household update.  It happened tonight at about 11PM and seems to happen indiscriminately at any time.  Previously it occurred at about 4PM. You get the blue screen, you can hear whatever you may be watching, but can't do anything else, for example, pause the show you are watching,so you don't miss anything.  This is pretty annoying.  I have my Daily Update setting for between 4AM - 6AM.  It would be nice to understand, why this is happening and why it can't occur during the times I have set for Daily Updates.  This is something I have never experienced until the last few months and I have been a subscriber for years

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to us regarding your issues viewing your programming. I am truly sorry to hear that you are receiving this blue screen and error message. I can certainly understand how frustrating this would be especially if it is happening in the middle of a program! Can you tell me how long the error lasts before coming back to normal programming again? Are you having any issues with any other services during this time or is the impact only to your tv programming?

Thanks so much for reaching out.  When this occurs, it lasts about 5 minutes and then goes back to the regular programming.  During that time you can hear the program, but just get the blue screen with the message (Just a moment you've caught us in the middle of a quick household update.) Really doesn't seem to be an error.  This doesn't happen every day, but seems to be a recent development.  Not really a big deal, but I was more curious as to what is happening.  One thought I have is that sometimes my wife is an early riser and will be watching TV when the daily update message will occur during the 4AM-6AM time frame that I have set.  She will cancel it and I wonder if it just doesn't do it later in the day.

Hey there @Pjk690! The update message you are seeing is tied to the automatic updates, and if canceled it will attempt to update throughout the day. However, the TV itself does not need to be on for these updates to go through. I would recommend adjusting the time of the X1 update so as to not interfere with anyone's enjoyment. I personally have mine set between 1 AM- 3 AM as nobody is awake at that time(usually😀)

Where and how do you set/change the time for the “automatic updates “.?  Ours are occurring daily at 11 AM. Customer Service and on site technician weren’t able to answer. Internet/Wi-Fi, TV and telephone all are unavailable for approximately 30 minutes daily. Thanks

Hi! I apologize the wait is so long to get help with changing the time for updates. Try these steps if they help if not reach back out we try something else;

Press the Xfinity button on your remote control, navigate to highlight the Settings wheel, and press the OK button. Navigate to highlight Preferences, and press the OK button. Navigate to highlight General, and press the OK button. Navigate to highlight Daily Update Time, and press the OK button.

I no longer actively support the Xfinity Forum or work for Comcast.

This doesn't  alleviate the problem. TV has been on black screen after the "update" message and has been so for twenty minutes now after attempting the solution with no indication it is coming back. Calling for assistance is no help ( I have the recording memorized anyway after having to call many times in the past) and unfortunately live reps don't seem to offer much more info than that, For myself, I don't particularly care but my family is clamoring for a more dependable service than Xfinity.

when that set top box is working, use voice command 'about'. reply with the line after 'STB Version'.
