program recording independent of guide

HOW?

Example 1; last week tthe guide said there was a football game from noon to 3  PM.
Turned on TV and was getting 'normal' programs. How do I record General Hospital when it comes on at one?
Example 2; Last night the basketball game ran 17 minutes late so all the programs following were delayed(but the guide said everything was on time, so the prgramed show was only HALF recorded. and later Jimmy Kimmel came on at 11:30 instead of midnight.

Comment:  With so many last minute changes in the schedule you almost need somone deicated to keeping the guide current!

Example 1 it’s possible that the game ended up being blacked out locally.
Example 2 nothing you can do but make sure you record multiple time slots after live sports

For example 1: the game was cancelled.  Sometime bween 1 & 2 they realized the game wasn't on, but my recording continued.  Why isn't there an independant programing method?

Example 2:  Using the shotgun approach you could easily use an hour and a half ot more to capture a half hour quiz program.  The programs were running 17 minutes late and Jeopardy was followed by an hour of news, which means an hour and a half to record Jeopardy.

Comcast gets it's Guide data from a 3rd party, and that 3rd party gets their data from the networks and local stations. Last-second changes rarely, if ever, make it through in time to affect recording, even with X1's remote database control. The older legacy only updates every few hours.

If it's common for a program to run late, you can go into the recording options and tell it to add extra time.
