Presently on legacy system and moving to X1
After receiving an e-mail telling me my legacy boxes will soon no longer work with "on Demand", I have now received new X1 boxes (1 primary box/dvr and 2 small satellite boxes). I have not tried to install them yet.
A couple of questions.
I do not have xfinity internet. Do I need xfinity internet to make this system work?
Are there legacy boxes that I can get to replace the ones I presently use (1 HD DVR, 2 HD boxes) that will work with "on Demand" rather than switching to X1 that I don't really want?
Thanks for your help!

As far as I can tell, it should work if they are standard XG series boxes (see label on bottom.) The main box should work, although apps like Netflix will be disabled. The satellite boxes, if they connect with RG cable, will probably work over the cable and communicate with the master XG box using MoCA communications.

Thanks for the reply Andy. The model number on the one satellite box I have looked at is CXD01ANI. It also says XiD-C on the label.

I think those will work. They use the main box as their tuner and for accessing recordings. Didn't find any true manual, but did fine a YouTube video from a few years ago.

Thanks again Andy.
I'm still wondering if there are any upgraded legacy boxes that will work with the new "on Demand" feature. I ask because my coaxial wiring is definitely non-standard. It is split outside where the cable meets the house and 2 different coaxial cables come into the house. The main TV is one one cable and the other 2 TV's are on the other cable (with another split in between).

The legacy boxes use special hidden TV channels for OnDemand. X1 streams from Comcast servers. The built-in modem of legacy boxes was never used. Also, most boxes have ancient DOCSIS 2.0 or even 1.0 built-in that will no longer work.
Typically, it should work. You may want to put a MoCA filter where your main cable comes in and goes to the first splitter. That prevents any local signals from leaking between homes. MoCA runs at very high frequencies, and tends to drop off very fast, so it may not be an issue, depending on how close connections are between homes.
