Pixelation during sports

I have both a wireless box and a regular box.  Both have recently been replaced.

Usually on the weekends when we are watching sports, the picture is so pixelated that we are unable to watch TV. Channels such as HGTV and FoosNetwork work just fine.

We did a trial of YouTube TV and were able to watch all the football games with no problems.  Now that the games are all done, we switched back to xfinity and of course we have no issues with any of the channels.

We have a technician coming out this week but I don’t think he’ll find any issues since there won’t be any sports games televised.

Also, we streamed a game on the xfinity app from my phone and air played it on our TV and it was fine. I don’t think this is a solution to the problem.

Is there something that we’re missing?  It’s really annoying and frustrating to not be able to watch sports on TV. Right now, we’re seriously considering switching to YouTube TV.

Hello @user_ozufwb, and welcome to Comcast. I am sorry to hear that you have been having troubles with watching sports over the weekend. You are in the right place and we would like to take a look at this for you. If you do not mind me asking, what specific channels are you having the pixelation on? Now have you tried to change the coax cable from the wall to the main wired receiver? Also have you made sure that if you are using HDMI cables, that they are not loose or need to be replaced?

For the wireless box,

it is HDMI, and if it was the cable then wouldn’t it be happening all

the time? If it’s a regular show it’s fine. Seems like it’s live broadcasts.  It’s usually on channels 702,703,705,707 and sometimes 720,721.  Also, sometimes if a game is being played on both CBS and ESPN, The CBS channel would be so pixelated it would be unwatchable but it would be fine on ESPN.

The other box is not wireless and is upstairs and has the same issue.

A tech will come by tomorrow but Im

sure he won’t find a problem since

there will be live sports shows going on.

We actually rescheduled for Saturday during a time when there are multiple basketball/football/hockey games being televised. We were watching the news this morning and it was fine.

We just had the technician come by.  He said the issue was that our coaxial cable on our regular box is older.  He changed it to a newer one and so far no issues.

I am having the same exact problem. I have a new Sony Bravia 7 and when I try to sports, particularly basketball I get an unwatchable picture with lots of artifacts. Yet when watching anything else it looks good. We had a technician come out yesterday and they said there was nothing wrong with my internet speeds, although the Xfinity speedtest says otherwise. Some one is supposed to come out this week to check the line but we have no way of knowing if this will actually happen. What ended up being the solution?

The tech said our coaxial cable was an older type and replaced it with a newer one. He said the old ones don’t process HD feed well. It made sense since it only happens with live sports broadcasts.  Our house is about 30 years old.  We’ve had no issues until about 2 months ago.

So while it’s been better since he came, it still occasionally happens.  The big test will

be the super bowl this weekend.

You can google coaxial cable. Whatever he replaced is not actually connected to any of our tvs or cable boxes. It looks like it was perhaps the main cable in the wall.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully they find an issue when they check the line outside. The tech did check my interior coaxial and said it was OK but I will replace the one going to the box because it is old.
