OK button

Is there a way to program the Xfinity remote so that I don't have to use the "OK" button to change the channel or select a channel in the guide?  I just want the remote to complete the action after I've stopped pressing buttons for a second or two.

My parents can select the channel they want, but they forget that they have to press the OK button.

On their old remote, the remote assumed the input was finished a second or two after the user stopped pressing buttons and completed the action.

Using the voice control is not an option.  It often doesn't recognize their voice or it brings up options that are not "regular" channels (streaming or other options that they don't want to use).

Thank you for reaching out to us @user_1dhux1! I was taking a look at our options for the guide, and it would appear we do not have an option to automatically select a channel after a set amount of time has passed while hovering over the channel.

Did your parents have the same cable box when the previous remove had that feature?

I may have changed the cable box when I got the new remotes - I don't remember.

I got the new remotes because they were supposed to be easy to use with the voice control, but voice control either doesn't understand what they say or it does and brings up too many options for them to deal with.

With the changes (in the remotes and possibly the boxes), watching television is extremely frustrating for elderly people.  It's even frustrating for me.  We have to point the remote at the cable box within a very small vertical, horizontal, and distance range.

There should be a simpler remote control/system for people who don't need all of these options.  We can't even scroll through the Favorites channels I have programmed because as soon as they select a channel that is not in their favorites list (intentionally and accidentally), the guide switches back to the default of showing all channels.  I had to put the non-HD channels in their channel list because those are the numbers they remember (Wheel of Fortune is on channel "4" - they can remember that), but then the television automatically switches to the HD channel.  So, I had to put both the non-HD and HD channels into the favorites list resulting in a very long favorites list that is still rarely the list shown in the guide since the guide defaults back to showing all channels so frequently.

I know I personally don’t know the new channel numbers for the HD channels @user_1dhux1. If your parents do not have a preference for high definition over standard definition, that feature can be turned off follow the steps here. Adding both the standard and the high definition channels to the favorites list as you’ve mentioned would be the best alternative if they enjoy seeing their shows in HD.

I can definitely understand not needing most of the buttons on our newer remotes. The XRA Large Button remote might be a better fit. If you think they might prefer that remote, that remote require reaching out to our accessibility team.
