Odd remote setup forced upon me this a.m. Thursday, 8/15

I experienced an odd, forced remote control setup this a.m.  My Xfinity 4k box is set to sleep when not in use.  I use a custom remote which send IR signal through a controller and IR blasters and has always worked fine.  But after waking from sleep, the entire screen was in black and white words, starting with " Are you have problems with your remote?"  It took about 5 minutes of making choices and waiting, etc.  Eventually it said " we have saved your Xfinity box as "Living Room 2"  It began working normally after going through the whole exercise.  Any clue as to what was going on?  Never seen anything like this before.
