No 4k channels

Why am I paying for 4K boxes when there are no 4K channels available? All I can do is watch 4K content on streaming apps from other companies. The support info makes it seem like there are 4K channels that the system will autotune to, but this is [Edited: "Language"]. There are no 4K channels to auto tune to. I’m paying extra money to be able to access other companies streaming services through my cable company. Why am I doing this?

Yes, not much 4K broadcast content.  Mostly just some live sports events.  Very few of them are on dedicated 4K channels that autotune per the support notes.   Rather, they are ip feeds that can be found and accessed by saying 4K into the voice remote.

The Olympics got dedicated 4K channels in 2021 and 2022.  Presumably that will happen again, altho there's been no announcements about that yet.

Xfinity carries broadcast and cable content and very little of that is 4K.

you are paying it also for access to the 4K content on the apps you may be subscribing to; as well as the bump for HDR/dolby vision

I agree that 4K hasnt been the big leap that HD was, but this HDR really makes the picture POP

@westwayneguy88888 I suppose.  But, if you are subscribed to streamers like Netflix, it's likely you can access them on a smart TV or streaming box, which I've found to be considerably more responsive than the Xfinity versions.  And, the XG1v4 4K DVR doesn't do Dolby Vision.  For the most part, the only value I find from Xfinity 4K is the handful of live sports it provides.

Finally a native 4K  broadcast of an EPL game. Arsenal and Tottenham. You can actually see the players names on their jerseys on a wide field shot. And see the faces of people in the crowd. Now if American broadcasting only gets its act together unlike Fox and ESPN who have cheaped out by taking a 1080 HD signal and upconverted it to make a pseudo 4K piece of garbage when compared to a real 4K picture like they’re doing it overseas!

Looked great.  How do you know that it's native 4K all the way to the Xfinity boxes?

Sky Sports in the UK does all their production in native 4K (ergo the clarity in being able to read the players names on the jerseys from a full field shot). This unlike American Broadcasters crying poverty when they’re literally making BILLIONS of dollars in net profits and have like ESPN regressed from native 4K to 1080p faux 4K. Others like Fox and others never even took the initial step. Sad that we have to rely on foreign companies to give us real 4K (and some are even putting out 8K signals to really leave us behind)

Thank you Xfinity. Was doing a scan of channels and found that NBC Sports 4K was now a channel (1350). Well done. Hope this is just the beginning of a transition to the 21st Century.

We can be hopeful.   But, that channel has been there since the Olympics with nothing ever on it.

Tried to previously get it on the guide and it wasn’t present. Only able to pick it up and “favorite” it now. It’s ridiculous how Fox, Comcast and other major companies are pleading poverty for producing native 2160p 4K but regional networks like NESN can pull it off with a far more limited budget. If they can “mandate” something as stupid as EV cars (given the limited drawbacks of that current technology and the inability of the grid to actually implement it), then they should be mandating native 4K TV for these media giants where the saturation of 4K TVs is almost 75% of American households and the network is more than capable of handling it more so than electric cars.
