Hello @tbill1! If the box updates while recording it would cause a break in the recording as the box will reset. This restart, also known as Daily Update Time, happens by default between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM local time. You can however change that time if it doesn't work for you. These are the steps to do so if you ever need to:
Press the Xfinity button on your remote control, navigate to highlight the Settings wheel, and press the OK button.
Navigate to highlight Preferences, and press the OK button.
Navigate to highlight General, and press the OK button.
Navigate to highlight Daily Update Time, and press the OK button.
Adjust the Time of your Daily Update in two-hour blocks. For example you can change it from the default time of 3:00 AM - 4:00 AM local time to 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM local time.
Somethings designed wrong with a system if it has to update itself every single day. Even Microsoft Windows doesn't need updates that often. Non X1 DVRs we've had have never had a problem recording show when the box did its updating. X1 boxes don't seem to give you upcoming shows more that 2 weeks out so the nightly update the X1 box does to not seem to benefit the users. Many report problems with DVR after the nightly updates.
