New XG1V4 box, sound level low when listening to anything from box

I have a Sharp 58" 4K UHD Roku TV and a Vizio SB3630-E6 sound bar.  We just got the new XG1V4 set top box.  We have an HDMI (ARC capable) cable running from the box to the sound bar HDMI-in, and then another HDMI (ARC capable) cable running from the sound bar HDMI-out to the TV HDMI-ARC.  Everything works except the sound has to be cranked up to 14 or 15 on the soundbar to hear it. But then if we switch to the ROKU to watch Netflix or YouTube or something then the sound bar speaker is EXTREMELY loud.  We have to turn it down to 5 or 6 for normal sound level.  (We have the TV speakers turned off.)   The setting on the TV is on Auto detect and we tried Auto-passthrough too. The X1 box says it detects Dolby Digital 5.1 and it is broadcasting at 1080p.  We just don't want to have our soundbar speakers blown out because we forget to turn down the volume before switching from X1 box to ROKU app. Please help and let me know if you need more info.  (our old X1 box worked just fine with the sound levels being the same no matter what).   I am beginning to wonder if the sound bar just is not compatible with the 4K and the ARC

ARC is audio return channel.put the HDMI out of the set top box to the HDMI1 or HDMI2 jack on the TV (see owner's manual). then run an HDMI cable from the ARC on the TV to the input port on the sound bar. working?
