New set box won’t rewind

We have a new XRE type set box, but the rewind feature does not work.  We get an error message that it isn’t supported.  We’ve tried doing the system update, restarting, unplugging and plugging back in and none of these resolve the issue.  We pay a lot of money for cable service and frustrated by this new box that seems to be increasingly glitchy.
