MAX Free This Week?

If MAX is Free This Week to everybody, why would we still have to "Subscribe", "Connect Your Provider" or "Sign In"?

The channel itself is not free. Only select titles. See this Xfinity link:

It says "From October 28th to November 3rd, check out Max for free!" which suggests its the whole channel (the films listed are just examples).

That's how we felt, too. Turns out not so, apparently.

So, if it says "MAX/HBO", it's free without strings. But if it just says "MAX", it's got strings attached. We subscribe to HBO from Comcast, and are told that MAX is included; we shouldn't have to go through the "Subscribe/Connect" baloney to see something that's on MAX. Thought we'd be able to do that on this "free" week. The last time a Free This Week channel required subscribing or connecting to the provider ordinarily, it wasn't necessary during that week.

We'll just stay with our HBO channels and HBO OnDemand and forget MAX. It's not worth the bother.

Thanx for the info.

user_z9f98f Hello and thank you for reaching out via our Xfinity Community Forums. I totally get the excitement around having free access to MAX this week – it’s the perfect time to explore everything they offer. While we’re thrilled to provide this week’s access as a bonus for our customers, I understand it’s disappointing when a specific title, like Salem’s Lot, isn’t available to watch for free.

The titles and categories offered are all set by MAX’s own content licensing and availability, so they make the final calls on what’s included. I’d recommend keeping an eye on their lineup, as it often changes, and sometimes classics like Salem’s Lot return to the free section.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy exploring all the available content! Let me know if there’s anything else I can help with – we’re here to make your streaming experience the best it can be. 😊

Hope you enjoy the free week and have a great day!

And again, it is only select titles. These are just teasers to entice you to subscribe to the full Max. Not too different than some services putting the first episode of a new season on their YouTube channel.

You are absolutely right, Andyr1, about the "teaser" aspect.  But we already subscribe to HBO, and since our account includes MAX, we don't need to be teased.  Since MAX used to be viewable without the "Subscribe"/"Connect" nonsense, I just can't see doing it now.  Haven't seen a thing on MAX only that makes it worth it.

I appreciate your replies.

@Redtailhawk1 Thank you for reaching out so we can help with your MAX subscription. All HBO Max subscribers have access to Max. When MAX replaced HBO, they transferred your profiles, watch history, and billing info. Your HBO Max app may have automatically updated to Max already. If not, when you open the HBO Max app, you'll be prompted to download the Max app. Then, just login using your email address and password.

What happens when you open MAX and sign in with your provider?

Hi, EmilyB -- You're about to find out who techie we're NOT.  We watch TV; we don't watch TV shows on the computer or anywhere else.  I don't know anything about an "app" or how or where to download it.  Does that have anything to do with our cable TV?

With “Free this Week, you can unlock entertainment every single week – no strings attached. From October 28–November 3, you can enjoy hit movies from Max, including Evil Dead Rise, The Sixth Sense, MaXXXine, The Addams Family (2019), and more.

Just say “Free this Week” into your Xfinity Voice Remote to watch. Free featured content varies and may be available on X1, Flex, and/or Xumo devices

You can go to Free this Week — Halloween Movies to Watch  to find out this week’s upcoming programming.

You are wrong. This week's "Free This Week" is MAX.  The movies you've listed (word-for-word off of the ad) are HBO/MAX movies, not MAX.  And we would STILL have to do the "Connect With Provider" or "Sign In" nonsense that we have to do now.  Haven't you read any of the postings on the subject?

HBO and Max TV services are combined so if you have HBO services when you go to HBO it will show it listed as Max, the free this week is different subscriptions that when you go to the free for week listing on your X1 platform it will give you the available free movie listings.

Can you tell me what errors you get when you speak into your voice remote and go free this week and select the program?

We're not getting errors -- what we're getting is a set-up that, as HBO/MAX full subscribers, we shouldn't have to deal with.  Why MAX is now "Sign In"/"Connect" when it didn't used to be, I don't know, but we don't like it (others don't like it, either; read the postings).  And what non-subscribers are getting "free this week" are movies that are actually HBO.....not MAX.  I also asked XfinityEmilyB a question about an "app" and what it involves and never got an answer.
