Live TV no longer buffers when the TV is off?

When / why did this change?  I used to always be able to turn the TV on and then rewind whatever was on.  Now though I can‘t rewind because the buffer doesn’t start filling until the TV is turned on.

Is the cable box turned off at the same time the TV is off?

@kjakubowsk When did you first notice this change?

I no longer work for Comcast.

I actually figured it out.  I decided to go and turn off the TV and watch the cable box.  Sure enough, it went off (it used to never do that before).  I poked around in the power settings and noticed that HDMI Device Control (HDMI-CEC) was turned on.  Something must have changed this setting on my boxes but I set it back to Off.  the boxes are now staying on when the TV is turned off.

Question though, when HDMI-CEC is turned on, it puts the box into Standby Mode.  How does that affect DVR recordings?

@kjakubowsk thank you for posting this. My husband actually mentioned this issue over the weekend when he set the tv channel to be on the football games for when he got home. Then it wouldn’t let him rewind. He was upset and asked me if I knew when it changed. I had no idea. Anyway, I just checked our settings and like you my HDMI-CEC was on and it definitely wasn’t a setting anyone in my household changed. I wonder if the recent software update updated this setting for everyone. I switched it off. Hope things are back to normal now.

That is a great question. Powering down will not affect the critical background services provided by your TV Box, like recording your favorite TV programs - or playing on other devices via AnyRoom DVR.
