Live sports look awful on brand new 4k TV

I just purchased a brand new 4k uhd QLED tv and live sports on ESPNHD, NBC, and NBC Sports Philadelphia look terrible. The half court view during a basketball game is blurry, same with wide angles of football games. The players are unrecognizable. Words and tv station logos are pixelated, blurry, and not smooth. We have 800 Mbps internet and are hardwired into the router via cat8 ethernet. I've tried different different 4k HDMI cables and even an 8k HDMI cable. What am I doing wrong? Please help!

Hi, @garrison36! I'm sorry to hear your sports viewing experience has been poor. To confirm, is this specifically happening during sports games when viewing those channels? I know you mentioned your internet speed, are you using a streaming app to view those channels?

The HDMI cable isnt killing the signal, unless said HDMI cable is running parallel to a power line. However, theres a few reasons why Sports are looking awful. One there is some compression the Comcast does that degrades the signal. So by default you will get some pixilation. Now the TV. you said QLED, I am assuming its a Samsung. If you have a Comcast STB or not (using Xfinity app) One thing you can try is to fix the settings on the Samsung TV.  I cant remember if there is a sports mode. If not, you can change motion blur, etc. You can google search for those settings. The other is the price you paid for the TV. Anything 800 bucks or less would put you at a disadvantage. The processor in the TV simply isn't that good. Another thing would be TV size and how far away you are viewing. I had a 65 inch Sammy and sat about 15 feet away from it, at times I would see some noticeable pixilation and that was with a 1,200 set bought in 2018. Ive switched to a Sony OLED and the pixilation isn't as noticeable from the same distance.

Recommendation, a STB will better then the app. But there is settings you can tweak on the TV for the motion. The pixilation around the logos there isnt much you can do. The only wildcard to this is how you get the content. All are subject to some type of interference or pixilation. I could write a book on why or how, but thats too much.

If you are using the app, hardwire the TV not wireless. Depending on your environment, even if the router is within a few feet of the TV the wireless signal is subject to degradation. Also, if your TV is set to wireless. Based on my experience with newer Samsung TVs, they like to turn on at random. Not totally sure why, but its faulty firmware.
