LG Magic Remote has lost 'back' button functionality

I have an LG Magic Remote that has worked nicely with my X1 cable box until recently.  The functionality of the 'back' button on the LG Magic Remote has stopped.

The 'back' button is the curved arrow on the left side of the LG Magic remote.  Previously when pressed it would list the previous watched channels at the bottom of the screen

allowing me to choose a channel I had watched earlier.  Now the 'back' button does nothing.  Anyone else having similar issues?  Can't figure out if the issue is with the X1 box or

the LG Magic Remote.  If there's a fix, please help.
