How to connect modem and cable box in the same room

I have an ARRIS TG1682G modem in one of my bedrooms. I want to move it to the living room, but I am unsure how to connect it and the cable box since I only have one line from the outside. The cable box is model XG2v2-P. Can I use a splitter, or is there another connection that will work? Thank you!

We have two splitters in our house.   One is in the basement where the signal arrives in the house with feeds to four rooms.  There's also a splitter in one of the rooms with one leg to the modem and the other to a TV.  Comcast set all of that up when they ran cable to our neighborhood 15 years ago.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and set up, @BIslander.

@user_008546, have you already connected a splitter? Did it resolve the issue?
