Getting Xfinity to connect a XG1v4 Coax based box = Impossible

Xfinity services themselves are decent, a bit expensive, but offer decent quality and reliability.
However, their Customer Service and Computer systems are a joke, and it amazes me that Comcast (CMCSA) is a profitable company at all.

I’m about to join the ranks of TV Cable Cutters, and switch to something different.
It all started when I was logged onto my Xfinity account and there was a message saying I was eligible for an Upgraded TV Box.  My older box was a Coax connected, XG2v2-P.
Done, I accepted.

What I received, via mail, was an XiOne-SC(B) box, which is Wireless and designed to be a Satellite box, not a primary box. NOTE: I have only one TV connected to Xfinity, and own my Modem and Router. So, the XiOne-SC(B) wasn’t suitable for my situation.

I then went to my local Xfinity store and Exchanged the XiOne-SC(B) box and was given a Xi6-A box; also Wireless. Using the Xi6-A, I’m not happy, as it has a few issues --
It times out after four hours (sleep timer is off)… I like to leave on for my pets, noise in the house
                It freezes occasionally.

So, researching Xfinity, it appears the XG1v4 is available, active in the Xfinity universe, and is Coax based.  I wanted this box. Returning to the Xfinity Store, wanting to exchange the Xi6-A for a XG1v4 (Coax). It took thirty minutes at the store, as they were unable to add it to my account. Said Xfinity was moving away from Coax based boxes, towards Wireless boxes…  Yet I left with the XG1v4, and kept the Xi6-A box too.

Hooking up the XG1v4, then chatting with Xfinity, they did tell me it would not work, offered to send me the correct box. Coax? Agent couldn’t tell me… a day later, another XiOne-SC(B) arrived.

I now have:
1. XiOne-SC(B), Wireless, not using -- Returning
2. XG1v4, Coax, won’t connect -- Returning
3. Xi6-A, Wireless, connected, working… sort of

Today, 9/17/2026 I hooked up the XG1v4 again and called customer service to see if they might be able to get it to work. After many back and forth questions, verifying Serial numbers, MAC addresses ,etc., 50 minutes later the agent tells me to go to the Store and have them help! It's not happening, as the store was already unable to help, and told me the XG1v4 wouldn’t work. Either Xfinity is phasing out the Coax based boxes, or their computer system is frustratingly slow and preventing any updates?

Two trips to the store, two calls into Xfinity customer service and I’m back to the Wireless Xi6-A. I'm Not a happy Xfinity customer… 32 years thus far.

For now I’m stuck with the Wireless Xi6-A that freezes and times out. I'll see how it goes, but if it continues to Time Out, Freeze, etc.... ??

Good morning, @MishawakaKirk ! I'm truly sorry for the inconvenience and frustration you've experienced trying to get the equipment you prefer. I can certainly understand how multiple store visits, shipments of the wrong equipment, and lengthy calls without a resolution would be frustrating, especially after being a customer for 32 years. Since it's been a few days since you last posted, how has the Xi6 wireless TV Box been working for you? Are you still experiencing the freezing and unexpected timeouts, or has its performance improved since your last update? If the issues are continuing, please let us know what you're seeing now, and we'll be happy to take a closer look with you. 😊

I have two XG1v4s and have swapped them out a few times over the last several years.   Never had one that couldn't connect.  What specifically happens when try to use yours?

I tried the self-activate (computer or app), enter in my account details... it says verifying, then it errors out and says to contact Customer Service. Customer Service is of no help; first call 45 minutes in, they said they couldn't help and said I needed to go the store (FYI.. Store is who gave me the XG1v4 in the first place)

Second attempt, a different location gave me another XG1v4 box, and verified it showed as assigned to my account -- same issue, would not activate. Called Customer Service (Agent) and 30+ minutes later said they could not activate it, and offered to schedule a Tech...

So, I'm still using the Xi6-A box, and it still times-out "Are you still there"... power saver is OFF, and it still freezes once in a while..
I'd prefer an XG1v4 Coax based box if it's possble

We understand the difficult journey you have been through and we will ensure you have reached a clear resolution after the technician visit has been completed. At this time, it will be best to wait for the visit so that we can check what steps the technician was able to take to address this issue. Our boxes are limited in coax because most boxes are all wireless these days. We could still request this model through the work order. However, we are not able to guarantee that it will be available. To proceed, please send us a direct chat message with your full name and complete service address to “Xfinity Support”. Sorry.  I've installed at least a half dozen XG1v4s over the last few years, altho none recently.  Never had to enter credentials or do anything to activate the box.
