Formula 1

I have DVR set to record all practice and qualifying sessions including the race for Formula 1 but the last two weeks, it has not recorded the 3rd practice session or qualifying. This seems to be related to the races being in North America, specifically Texas and Mexico City where the broadcast is through a Local network instead of espn as usual. I check to make sure the recording is valid and it appears so on the menu but these do not record. Is there any reason why?

Hey, @user_f05e4d! Thanks for reaching out to us on the forums! I hope you are doing well. I apologize to hear of the issues you are having with trying to record these races. By chance do you happen to know if you have more than 6 recordings happening around the time for the 3rd practice session? It's possible you don't have any turners available (up to 6) to record these races.

That is not the issue. All of the practice , qualifying, sprint and race events are on ESPN2 and nothing else is scheduled on my DVR during those times. The DVR schedule shows practice 3 and qualifying as set to record the day before, but on the day of the event the recording disappears from the schedule. Then we have to go to a F1 app or Youtube to see snippets of the earlier event.

This is not the service we pay for!

We want to make sure we fully understand the issue. Is it that you try to record that program when it airs, but it doesn't or does it dispear the day of then it also doesn't record? I want to be clear on the day of if it does show on the network schedule and/or guide.

I have the same issue. It seems lately Xfinity "broadcasts" some of the practice sessions and qualification races on the ESPN News channel. I don't have this channel in my cable package. When I try to record the missing events they all look good but because I don't subscribe to ESPN News the DVR does nothing... no warning, very frustrating!   This just started in the timeframe you outlined. I hope this goes back to working normally.

The Comcast schedule in advance shows all of the sessions to be on ESPN2. Why pick out P3, Sprint and Quali to be suddenly deleted on the DAY of their recording???

Comcast doesn't control which channel the races, practice, and qualifying are on. That's up to ESPN, which is part of Disney. The agreement with the FIA and/or Sky basically forces them to air all the programs, but I assume only the races have to be on primary channels (ABC, ESPN, ESPN2.)

Not applicable - all of the F1 events on my Comcast schedule are provided on ESPN2. The day of the event P3 and quali. are deleted from their dvr schedule.

I believe, based on not being able to see Brazil GP qualifying nor the sprint that is related to the timezone where the F1 event is being held. COTA, Mexico City and Interlagos are all relatively local time to the US. Football (the American variety) gets precedence basically...

Why can't we get the same service from Comcast (who I pay my exorbitant bill to) wherever in the world the F1 GP is being held?

They are first scheduled, but disappear from the schedule on the event day.

Because F1 is just not popular enough in the US. We are getting (mostly) commercial-free Sky Sports that I assume costs extra for non-US viewers. Even NASCAR has had declining ratings for years

But why is it shown as scheduled days before, but then disappears on the event day?

What happened to the Xfinity person? No answer so no more responses? Ridiculous to spend this money and miss out on the qualifying, yet again. We have to pay for every streaming service to watch what we want anyway so there is not much reason in having Xfinity tv around anymore.

@user_40e16d Again, Comcast has NO control over what channel the qualifying is aired on. YELL at Disney! Sure, Comcast could add ESPNNews to your lower level of service, but then everybody would have to probably pay yet ANOTHER $3-$4 increase on top of the increase coming this January...

All the events are on ESPN2 according to my schedule. The day of the event they get killed. We end up watching snippets on F1 app!

Are you set up to record all F1 on any channel?  That SHOULD keep up with changes made by Disney/ABC to their schedules; however, the problem I have encountered is that the Xfinity guide often does not keep up with their changes, often only appearing on the day of the event.  I have found that the only reliable means to record F1 when the races are in the Americas is to use the F1 app on Android to check the times & channels the day before each event (especially quali & the race).

Lets hope this is less of an issue next season.
