Fix the sleep mode. This is insane.

We pay way too much money to have you dictate how long I can leave my TV on. I need it on to sleep. Fix this.  I will cancel service with you.  I cannot believe this is even an issue.

I can appreciate where you are coming from with the need for the TV noise to sleep. Unfortunately, while you can change power saving settings, after four hours of inactivity the cable box from go into nap mode and there is not a way to fully disable that feature. We truly appreciate your business and would hate to see you leave due to this feature.

@XfinityBillie  What is the difference between On and Off on the Power setting?  Put another way what is Nap mode?

BIslander Awesome question! The Xfinity Power Saver setting controls whether your TV box turns off or displays a warning message after four hours of inactivity, while Nap Mode is the built-in backup state that activates when Power Saver is turned off.

Sorry, but still not clear to me.  My X1 boxes say they will go to Sleep after 4 hours when the Power Saver is On.  So, what happens after four hours when that setting is On or when it is Off?

BIslander Apologies for the confusion, so the breakdown of the difference would go as follows:

  • When Power Saver is On: You will see an "Are You Still There?" message on your screen. If you do not respond to this prompt within a short period, the TV box will go into Power Saver mode and shut down power to conserve electricity.
  • When Power Saver is Off: The box automatically goes into Nap Mode after four hours of inactivity. Nap Mode does not save power or shut down the box completely, but it stops content from playing indefinitely (often dropping audio or displaying a screen saver) to prevent streaming endlessly while you are away or asleep

So, when Power Saver is On, the box essentially turns off - no audio or video?   When Off, it keeps working, but maybe with lower audio and/or a screen saver displayed?

Yes, you have the exact right idea about what happens when Power Saver is On, but when it is Off, the box actually transitions into what Comcast calls "Nap Mode" rather than staying fully active.

Thanks.   I'm trying to learn what Nap mode actually does.  The post from @XfinityTommy mentions it may drop audio or show a screen saver.  Anything more definitive than that?  Any user settings that may affect that?

Thank you, @BIslander Here is exactly what Nap Mode does under the hood when it triggers after 4 hours of inactivity:

It severs the live tuner/streaming data stream: The core purpose of Nap Mode is to stop the Xfinity box from pulling data down from Comcast’s network. If millions of boxes left on "Power Saver Off" kept streaming HD/4K video to empty rooms, it would congest Comcast's data pipes.

It drops the active audio completely: Because the box stops decoding the live TV feed, all audio cuts out 100%. There is no "lower audio" or muted broadcast track.

It launches a local screen saver: To prevent screen burn-in on your TV set while the box is "napping," the box immediately fires up its built-in screen saver images.

It skips the warning prompt: Unlike Power Saver Mode, Nap Mode does not display the 30-second "Are You Still There?" message before activating.

It seamlessly cuts straight to the screen saver. It keeps the hardware fully powered: Because it does not reduce hardware energy consumption, the physical light on the front panel of your Xfinity box stays on, and the box remains instantly responsive the second you click a button on your remote.

Physical Indicator: The physical power light on the front panel of the box stays illuminated, meaning the box is still fully powered up and drawing the same amount of electricity as normal. It simply stops streaming active programming to save network bandwidth.

@XfinityRichard  Thanks!

One other question.  If I am streaming a third party app like YouTube, does the Power Saver function still kick in after four hours?
