Feature Request: Cable-Only Search Option for Xfinity X1
I am writing to share feedback about the Xfinity X1 experience and to request a feature that I believe would significantly improve the service for many customers.
My family subscribed to Xfinity TV in January because we wanted to simplify our television experience. We specifically chose Xfinity over streaming because we wanted a simpler television experience for our family. Instead, the interface continually steers us back toward the very streaming ecosystem we were trying to leave.
We have three young children—ages 3, 7, and 9—and our goal was straightforward: one place where they could access live TV, DVR recordings, and Xfinity On Demand without being constantly reminded of streaming services. We intentionally pay for cable because we value its simplicity.
Unfortunately, the X1 search experience undermines that goal. Every search combines DVR, Xfinity On Demand, and third-party streaming apps into a single list, with no option to limit results to Xfinity content. As a result, my children regularly see shows available through streaming services and ask to watch them. Even when those apps are locked or unavailable, simply displaying them creates confusion and repeated negotiations that we were specifically trying to avoid by choosing cable.
I understand that many customers appreciate universal search, and I am not suggesting it should be removed. Instead, I am asking that Xfinity consider adding an optional “Cable Only” or “Xfinity Content Only” search mode. This setting could limit search results to:
- Live TV
- DVR recordings
- Xfinity On Demand
Ideally, it would also remove third-party streaming apps from search results and recommendations while the setting is enabled.
This would not take anything away from customers who enjoy universal search. It would simply give families, older adults, and customers who intentionally subscribe to cable the ability to tailor the experience to their needs.
Today, I pay a significant monthly premium for a cable television service specifically because I wanted a simpler experience than streaming. Instead, the interface continually promotes the very services I intentionally chose to leave behind. The software feels misaligned with the reason I continue to subscribe to traditional television. I suspect my family is not unique. There are many households with young children, older adults, or customers seeking a less complicated viewing experience who would benefit from having this choice.
I hope you will share this feedback with the X1 product team. I believe a cable-only search option is a practical, customer-focused enhancement that would improve the experience for many households while preserving universal search for those who prefer it.
Thank you for your time and for considering this request.

@user_0mqf8l Hi there, and thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback! As a mom of young kids, I can absolutely understand why having more control over the X1 search experience would be valuable, especially for families who intentionally choose certain services because they prefer a simpler viewing experience.
You've done an excellent job outlining how a TV Only or Xfinity Content Only search option could benefit households that want search results limited to Live TV, DVR recordings, and Xfinity On Demand content. While universal search is designed to help customers discover content across multiple platforms, I can certainly see how having the ability to filter out third-party streaming services would create a more streamlined experience for customers like yourself.
I'll ensure your comments and suggestions are documented and shared through the appropriate channels for consideration. We also have a direct link to our Feedback form here.
Thank you again for taking the time to provide this feedback! We appreciate your continued business and your willingness to help improve the customer experience.
