Fast forward and rewind is maddening
Let’s say I’m watching a football game live and I want to rewind to see the last play again. I hit rewind and when I get to the point that I would like to see again I hit play. Instead of the video resuming at the point where I hit the play button it randomly jumps to anywhere from a minute before, 16 seconds before, 25 seconds ahead, sometimes back to live. Are there any settings that would allow me to control the point at which the video resumes after rewinding or fast forwarding? There is nothing more frustrating than simply wanting to rewind a few seconds back and having the video start at any random spot. I rewind 8 seconds to see a certain play in the game, hit play and it resumes at the point where I started the rewind. I do it again and it jumps back 20 seconds before the play. I fast forward and hit play where I’d like it to resume and it jumps to the end of the play. I can do this 10, 20 times and it simply will not resume at the point where I hit the play button. I assume this is something meant to predict where I would like the video to resume in an attempt to help me but for gods sake I can handle this on my own. I am fully capable of watching the tv as it rewinds and resume play at the point that I want to see. Why, why, why can’t I simply resume the video at the point when I hit play? This is absolutely maddening. And don’t get me started on the fact that there’s no ability to watch in slow motion. I was able to use slow motion on a directv DVR 20 years ago.

You can use the Page Up and Page Down keys to skip back and forward. The default is 5 minutes, but there is a 'hack' to change it to 15-seconds rewind and 30-seconds FF:

Thanks. I’ve done that and it is helpful. I would still like to able to rewind or fast forward to a specific spot and have the video resume at the point at which I hit the play button. Why it would react in any other way makes no sense. It’s bad enough that it doesn’t resume where you want it to but the fact that it is completely random and jumps to any spot before or after the spot you want is extremely frustrating. At least if it was consistent I could adjust to it. If I knew it would jump back another 10 seconds from when I hit play, at least I would have some idea as to how far I want to rewind. It’s absolutely useless to rewind or fast forward if it resumes at a completely random spot.

You can also experiment with voice commands instead. Try saying things like "Replay," "Rewind 20 seconds," and "Live" to navigate more precisely.

You may have been told already but the X1 does permit a limited slow motion option, nit tlike the previous Motorola units Comcast had, but it helps. You have to pause at the start of the section you want in slo mo and then press the fast forward key. It will run in about half speed until you push the pause again when it will resume normal speed. I find it aggravating the the DVR tech can't do things my 30 plus year old VCR could do.
