equipment update and x1 dvr with hard drive

Hi!

As a response to the Xfinity email that we needed to upgrade our current TV equipment, we ordered new equipment. We decided to rent a gateway from Xfinity. According to the order, we were to receive 3 TV boxes [No option to choose which x1 box.] and the XFi complete gateway. [We currently have our own modem and router.]

What we received from Xfinity is a TG 1682 gateway and no TV boxes. Two  of the TV boxes we have now are what the Xfinity tech who installed them called “legacy” models [RNG 150N]. Our other TV box is a DVR [RNG 200N] one that predates the legacy ones by at least several years. We think it’s on its last legs, as it acts pretty strangely at times. When we enter 1995 into the remote, all three TVs respond with “You’re good to go” or something like that.

We have not installed the TG 1682 because we prefer get a new plan and update everything at once and perhaps even get the modem we actually ordered. We do want a DVR with a hard drive, and I find that I am not the only one confused by the local and cloud DVR issue. From what I have read, we should be able to record 6 programs at once and watch them on any of our TVs that has a box. I will have to call CS, but I dread that, as it can be extremely frustrating.

So, do any X1 boxes have hard drives in them? If so, which ones?

How reliable are the Xfinity modems? Is the range and speed good and the signal strong? Would it be better to just update out current modem and router with new ones we buy?

Thank you.

@user_abc0ff Hello there! Thank you so much for your post for help with your equipment that you received, your DVR options and possibly repackaging. We are always happy to help to start with the DVR options, the basic option for our customers is the cloud DVR option. The Basic option comes with 20 hours of storage, and you can record two recordings at the same time. You can check out details here. https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/x1-dvr-cloud-technology-general-faqs

The Could DVR can also be upgrade with more storage up to 150 hours with an enhanced DVR option. The X1 Cloud DVR allows you to access your DVR recordings from mobile devices and computers while connected to any Wi-Fi or mobile network via the Xfinity Stream app or portal. You can also download completed recordings to a mobile device to watch offline when Wi-Fi or mobile networks are not available. That is not at all to say there is no storage on our current DVR boxes, but it does allow customers more DVR options if they do not want to use a box.  It is a great option for customers traveling a lot and away from home to keep up with their normal shows!

I would be happy to help make sure you get the correct boxes you are looking for as well as upgrade you plan accordingly if you would like to send our team a direct message with your full name, the name listed on the account (if different), and the service address associated with your account, I'd be more than happy to look into this for you.

Here's the detailed steps to direct message us: • Click "Sign In" if necessary • Click the "Peer to peer chat" icon (upper right corner of this page) • Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon • Type "Xfinity Support" in the to line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list • Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window • Press Enter to send your message

The chances of getting a hard drive are extremely small. They all come with a cloud drive. The refurbished one with a hard drive are hard to find.

Hi!

As a follow-up to my post of 5/27/23, I am now in the process of having a plan set up by Xfinity team members via Direct Messaging. They have been very helpful, and I will post back here when everything is settled.

Hi!

With the help of the Direct Messaging crew, I now have all new equipment. Our old equipment was very old, and we now are enjoying all the new things we can do.

The DVR [XG1v4-A] does have a hard drive. I learned a lot from Direct messaging, and I understand how things work so much better.
