equipment update and x1 dvr with hard drive

Hi!

As a response to the Xfinity email that we needed to upgrade our current TV equipment, we ordered new equipment. We decided to rent a gateway from Xfinity. According to the order, we were to receive 3 TV boxes [No option to choose which x1 box.] and the XFi complete gateway. [We currently have our own modem and router.]

What we received from Xfinity is a TG 1682 gateway and no TV boxes. Two  of the TV boxes we have now are what the Xfinity tech who installed them called “legacy” models [RNG 150N]. Our other TV box is a DVR [RNG 200N] one that predates the legacy ones by at least several years. We think it’s on its last legs, as it acts pretty strangely at times. When we enter 1995 into the remote, all three TVs respond with “You’re good to go” or something like that.

We have not installed the TG 1682 because we prefer get a new plan and update everything at once and perhaps even get the modem we actually ordered. We do want a DVR with a hard drive, and I find that I am not the only one confused by the local and cloud DVR issue. From what I have read, we should be able to record 6 programs at once and watch them on any of our TVs that has a box. I will have to call CS, but I dread that, as it can be extremely frustrating.

So, do any X1 boxes have hard drives in them? If so, which ones?

How reliable are the Xfinity modems? Is the range and speed good and the signal strong? Would it be better to just update out current modem and router with new ones we buy?

Thank you.
