Enabling X1 Box to adjust volume

I have a Dell  4K Monitor without a remote control.  I used to be able on my old box to adjust the volume with the remote. Now since there is nothing to pair inside the monitor, I cannot adjust the volume, nor turn off the X1 box.  I understand the volume control and power functions on the X1 box were disabled because some customers were turning off electronic equipment.  Is there a way to renable the volume and power functions on the X1 box. 

I tried the X1 remote website and the power and volume buttons are greyed out.
