Dvr x1 box purchase

I currently rent my X1 DVR box monthly.  Can I purchase the DVR instead of renting it?

No. All cable boxes are the property of Comcast. Don't even THINK of buying one from someplace like eBay. They are STOLEN property.

The closest you can get to your own cable box is with a CableCard device like Tivo or some computer-based home theater setups.

Also, with Cloud DVR, you don't even need a true DVR. You can use a Roku and the Xfinity app.

Hi @escapemike! Thank you for posting your question in the Xfinity Forum. @andyross is correct. Unfortunately, our cable boxes cannot be purchased. Please let us know if there's anything else we can assist you with in the future.

So I hope I got you right. I have 3 TVs and 2 of them are now on Roku Premiere; can I switch to another Roku Premiere on the main TV that uses the DVR? If not how can I replace the DVR and which device will you recommend?  What is the latest and best Cable Modem (non Xfinity - I like owning my own.) for Xfinity? Guess, I need a router too.

@user_aa6f32 There does have to be a main box on the account to have DVR service. In order to have X1 and cable services purchasing a cable box is not an option. In terms of the best internet modem this link should help: https://comca.st/3vSCcT0;

I no longer work for Comcast.

In my area the DVR service appears to be independent of having a rented X1 box. The DVR service can be in the cloud which is independent of a physical DVR.   You still have to pay the $10.00 DVR cost if you want 150 hours of storage, but under my plan 20 hours is free.
