DVR won't record complete program

Today's US Open golf coverage on USA Network runs over 10 hours, as one single program on the guide.  When I tried to record the program the DVR would only record one hour.  So I got very little of the coverage, missed nearly everything that's been on since 5:30am Central Time.

This is not the first time I've experienced this problem - it's happened in the past for other tennis and golf coverage that is shown as one single, long program on the guide.

Why won't the DVR record the entire program - why does it only want to record one hour?  What's the solution to this problem?  My DVR has a lot of room, it's nowhere near full (only about 40%).

I am extremely frustrated!!!

Hi there, @user_1aee6f Thank you for taking the time out to reach out to us regarding your DVR not recording the entire US Golf Open. I love golf so I understand how frustrating this issue was to you, which I do apologize for. Since it's been a few days since you last posted are you still having the same issue with recording programs?-Richard

We cannot see if the problem is happening now.  It only happens when a guide program is very long - 9, 10 or more hours in length.  We have this problem with the tennis Grand Slam tournaments, which usually have the same long single programs for early rounds.  We have it for the four majors in golf, which have long single programs for the first two days of those tournaments.  I don’t know what NBC and USA will do for the Olympics this summer, they may also have single long programs. It is not a new problem, it’s happened to us for years.

I sent you this string originally regarding the US Open golf tournament.  I mentioned in my first comment that I was concerned that this issue would impact our ability to watch other long events - other golf and tennis tournaments, the Olympics.

We have the same problem today.  I tried recording the entire 11 hour block of British Open coverage on USA Network today.  The system would only allow me to record a one hour block within that 11 hour program.  I took screenshots with my phone of the information on the screen, proving the "1 hour" restriction.  I have attached pictures I took with my phone when I tried recording early this morning.  You can see it was only giving me one hour at a time.

No, they never resolved this issue - and it happened again this morning when I tried recording the British Open on USA.  I just sent them two pictures I took early this morning of the "1 hour" recording message that popped up on my screen when I attempted to record.  We'll see what they have to say with this posting.

Very frustrating!!!!!

Hi there, @user_1aee6f I'm very sorry for the trouble you are experiencing with your DVR only recording 1 hour, I know how frustrating that is especially when you really wanted to watch the entire event and not just 1 hours. You can set up manual recording.

  1. Press the Guide button on the remote to access the guide grid.
  2. In the guide, navigate to the channel you wish to record.
  3. Press the Left arrow button on the remote to select the channel name and logo from the guide.
Screenshot of the Guide that displays channels and programs to record.

  4. Press the Rec (record) button on the remote (the button with the red dot).
  5. The Channel Record Options screen appears.
  6. Press the down arrow button to choose any of the following settings:
    • Start: Press OK.
      • To set the hour, minute, and period (a.m./p.m.) that the recording will begin, press the up arrow button or down arrow button to choose the hour.
      • Then press the right arrow button and arrow up/down to choose the time.
      • Repeat to choose the period. Then press OK.
    • Duration: To record for a time other than the default 1 hour duration, press the left arrow button to choose a duration of 45 minutes, 30 minutes, or 15 minutes.
      • Or, press the right arrow button to choose 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 hours.
    • Date: Press OK.
      • Then press the up arrow button or down arrow button to choose the date of the recording, and press OK.
      • Only dates that are available in the guide will display.
    • Save: Press the right arrow button to choose Until space is needed or For 1 Year.
    • When finished, press the up arrow button until you reach the Confirm option. Press OK to confirm your choices.
Screenshot of the Channel Record Options screen, which has options to Confirm or Cancel near the top. Below are options for Start Time, duration, date, and saving priority.

Please reach back out if you need further assistance, we'll always be here for you.-Richard
