DVR still working onXi6 boxes without an X1 box ???

Hi,

I apologize if this has been discussed already, I didn't find it.

Yesterday my Pace XG1v3 box locked up, it kept trying and failing to update the firmware and the "Waiting for SNMP trigger" message stayed on screen for hours.

I called in for tech help and the 2 ladies that I spoke with in the course of an hour they both were very nice and tried thier best to help. Including sending new firmware to the X1, etc, etc, etc. But it did not change.

So, I checked my other TVs that have the Xi6 mini boxes and they were working just fine. I then unhooked the X1 assuming the other TVs would stop working. I was and am still amazed that they work perfectly without the X1 ! All my recordings are still there and play perfectly and programs still record.

SO... why do I even need to get the X1 box swaped for a new one ? Can I just use Xi6's ?

Thanks for any advice on this !

Steve

they are falling back on fail to connect to DVR to the cloud DVR. when you get that error you have to swap out the box (local xfinity store is fastest). be sure to go into device settings with the new DVR and scroll down to sync DVR so it will know what it needs to program 'that day' before the overnight reboot.

Thank you both for the fast replies and help.

So I guess xfinity won't allow me to have just Xi6's without the X1 and the X1's fee ?

And, I moved one of the Xi6 to my living room where the X1 normally is, I hooked it into the HDMI just the same as the X1 had been my wife and I both notice the picture is MUCH better, clearer and sharper than the X1 was. It really is and it's not our imagination.  Could that be due to the X1 has been going bad for a while or what ?

Theoretically you could keep the dvr unplugged but you’d only have access to cloud recordings and not the full capability of the dvr’s hard drive that you’re paying for

Excellent, I just requested an exchange through a PM with Comcastella.

Thank you !

The Xi6 is a 4k box.    You should probably get an xg1v4 for your primary DVR.
