DVR STB Types

Currently I use an XG1-v3 DVR (has 500gb drive). I use my own modem (Netgear) and router. I have 800 mbps service.  My current tv is only 1080p. I would like to buy a 4K tv. But before I get a new 4K tv, I want to have a new working STB in place and have most of the bugs worked out.

I have some questions and assumptions. What are the newest STBs?

I believe the XG1-v4 is 4k and with an internal drive. Can I use it with my own modem? Will it work with cloud based storage in addition to the internal storage? I’m guessing it will still be compatible with my 1080p tv?

Xi6 --4k yes. Only cloud based dvr, wireless with no RF connector, but does it have a working Ethernet port? Is the Ethernet port 1gig? How many programs can I record at the same time? Work with my 1080p tv? Since it is wireless and or Ethernet does it count towards my download cap? Will it work with my modem?

XG2 --No 4k, has rf connector cloud based dvr, only records 4 programs at the same time.

Xi3 and xi5 --No 4k, no rf connection just wireless, only cloud based dvr. Number of programs to record at same time?

XiD –No 4k has rf connector only cloud based dvr.

Am I correct that my XG1-v3 DVR is not capable of any cloud based storage even for an extra fee?

Thanks!

Thank you very much for reaching out to us here. I had very similar questions when I upgraded to a 4K TV myself. You can use the XG1-v4 with your own modem. You can record up to 150 hours of cloud storage on that DVR, you can purchase up to 300 hours at Xfinity.com anytime as well. That box is still compatible with a 1080p TV. The wireless boxes require one wired box to work and are normally set up as additional outlets. All of the DVR boxes can record up to 6 programs at a time. The XG1 v3 does include cloud storage as well.

Just one more question does the XG1-4 have an internal 500gb drive? or just the cloud storage?

That XG1-4 does have a 500 GB hard drive as well. It also supports 4K UHD Netflix content as well as 4K YouTube, Disney+, Vudu, Netflix, Amazon Prime and HBO Max content. Apple TV+ 4K content isn’t available on XG1v4 TV Boxes.
