DVR records "NEW" and "REPEAT" programs, even though it is set for NEW programs only

Many recordings that I have set to record "NEW EPISODES ONLY" and a "SPECIFI"C channel also record that same program when it repeats later on that week on the same channel.  This appears to be because the repeats are not marked as "REPEAT" in the guide.  In fact, they are not NEW or REPEAT showings. So, apparently the DVR assumes it is a NEW program and schedules it to be recorded.  Very frustrating!

I believe this is a known problem, so why can't XFINITY add some DVR option to correct this?

Thank you for the reply.

What's frustrating is that XFINITY doesn't have a workaround.  For example, I know I can set a one-time recording by timeslot, eg. 8:00-9:00 every Friday on channel x, but I can't record it as a series with the same time and day criteria.

Is there anyone that I contact to request an enhabcement so that I can record a series by either:

 - day/time/channel

- "NEW" only - not those which are UNMARKED or are REPEAT.

currently as you discovered, if not marked 'repeat' it is recorded so we as customers don't miss a new episode.

on the last line, unmarked is treated as new. repeat-flagged won't record if set to new. you can set one time recordings for date/time and channel manually. won't repeat.

Totally agree with you!!!

Competitors DVR settings allow you to set your show to recording series only on a certain channel and/or date/time. This feature would fix the problem with Xfinity!! I hope this is added soon.

You can do that, find your show in the guide, on the proper channel that you want, press record

It depends on how you create the series recording. If you do a general search and set it to record the series, it tends to default to "HD Preferred" and may pick multiple copies on different channels. If you pick off the guide and set a series recording, it will default to that channel only.

I did some checks mentioned below to clean up "Spongbob Squarepants". When a new month is coming up, Nickelodeon is slow to properly update the info until almost the first day, so you end up with a ton of episodes that have generic descriptions and no New/Repeat flag.  It was trying to record on both the main Nick and NickToo and some others. After forcing it to only NICHD, my scheduled recordings count dropped by over 100.

It's a bit consufing, but you can verify what the settings are:

If there is a scheduled recording on a preferred channel, find it in the guide, choose Record Options, then Modify, then All Episodes. In the preferred channel settings, you can left/right to choose where to look. Typically, left-arrow will qiuckly take you to that current channel.

For something not currently scheduled, you can search for it on your preferred channel, even if it's an unscheduled repeat. Go to Series Info, then Record options and continue as above.
