Dvr recordings go way beyond scheduled end time

I've got a show setup to record new episodes only, and to start 1 minute before and usually 3 minutes after.  If there are conflicts with other recordings, I change it to end on time.  On a few occasions now, the recordings have gone way beyond the scheduled end time.  The max the programming allows is only 30 minutes, but I've had a few recordings now that go more than 1 hour past the end, even if it includes more than 1 additional show.  What the heck is going on?  This can be an issue when space is limited and older recordings can be deleted because of space limitations.  Is this an issue with by cable box or something within the xfinity programing?

Couldn't put any tags in without running into an error that cleared what I entered.

Good morning epictale, Thank you for reaching out via our Xfinity Community Forms. I can totally understand how annoying it would be to have recordings run way past their scheduled end time, especially when you've got it set up so specifically and space is a concern. It's like, you set it up a certain way for a reason, right? And when it doesn't work as expected, it throws everything off.

~ You know, it's funny you mention that, because I actually ran into something similar recently! What I found in my case was that it seemed to be tied to college basketball, specifically during March Madness. If a game went into overtime or just ran long, the recording for the next scheduled program would still kick in right after the game ended and record for its full allotted time. This would sometimes even pull in the show after that! It was a bit of a mess. Is there any chance you've been seeing this happen with recordings that follow live sporting events, maybe college basketball or something similar?

If not, could you tell me a little more about which channel and program you've noticed this happening with? That might help us figure out if it's a more widespread thing or something specific to that show or channel. We definitely want to get to the bottom of this for you, so your recordings work the way they're supposed to!

Regardless of any March Madness games that might have been on previously, the intended shows started at their regularly scheduled time, and I've never had this happen when award shows always run over.  This has happened with the CBS news in Sacramento at 10 and 11 pm. I took a couple of pics that show how much it went over, with some info added.  The one that displays the March Madness scores actually had overruns for both the 10 and 11 news that same night. Pics included separately.

I have the same issue, and it's causing recording conflicts constantly. Almost every program I record has settings set to "on time" but starts 1 minute before, and ends 1-3 minutes late. This causes the other shows I want to record to be cancelled due to conflict. None of these are live sporting events like the xfinity rep suggested above. I contacted support and they went through the normal rigamarole about resetting the box, checking signals, etc. but the issue lies with Xfinity setting the default recording times too long. I suspect this ultimately comes down to a tactic of wanting to charge me more for a  "better" recording plan.....which is just in this day and age.

Some of the shows having this "problem":

Next Level Chef starts at 7:59 and ends at 9:03

Law and Order SVU starts at 8:59 and ends at 10:03

Matlock starts at 9:00 ends at 10:01

All different networks
