DVR recording too many shows

I have set up recordings for several series. In the Record Options for one of my series I set Record=New and repeat, Channels=HD preferred, Save=Until space is needed, Keep=ONLY 5 EPISODES. This series currently has 60 shows recorded. Many of these shows are duplicates (same title and episode). Why is the DVR recording the same episode that is already recorded? Why is the DVR recording 60 shows when the record options state to KEEP ONLY 5 EPISODES?

You need to set your DVR to record only new episodes.

In the case of some series there are no new episodes and in other cases I have not seen the old episodes and want to record them. In any case, it make no sense for a DVR to record an episode that is already recorded. It also make no sense to have a setting to limit the number of episodes recorded (Keep =ONLY 5 episodes) but records many more (60 in the case I described).

Xfinity, please update the filter settings on your DVR recording feature! My settings are accurately set to record only new episodes; however, as non-major networks, e.g. USA of Lifetime, have obtained the rights to air previous seasons of series still releasing new episodes on original networks like NBC or Fox, my DVR is recording as many as 20 old episodes per week. To make matters worse, each of these recordings requires manual deletion to ensure the one, new episode airing on the original network is recorded! Very surprising for a company whose primary distinguishing feature is the user-friendliness of its interface. This situation has gone on far too long. FIX THIS ASAP!!

Hello, and thank you for reaching out about your recording concerns! We do have the option in place to record for set channels only for new episodes. You'll need to record directly from the channel itself rather than searching for it through On Demand. Please follow the steps here https://comca.st/3sAEoyY;

I no longer work for Comcast.

@XfinityStephanieK The link you provided does not work. Even if it did, this doesn't really solve the problem. Why are syndicated episodes being marked with the NEW flag when they originally broadcast years earlier on their original network? If that flag weren't there, the setting to record only new episodes would work just fine.

Also, if the primary network (where I want to record) is not currently broadcasting the show due to a break or whatever, it's not possible to modify the series recording to only record on that primary network, especially if I want to record in SD.

I've been having the same issue in the past few months: even if I choose New episodes only, a bunch of them get recorded which are not labeled New. I also selecting just the channel where the new episodes are aired, and still all the others on various channels get recorded.

This is extremely annoying because it requires that each episode not wanted get deleted manually one at a time.

It seems to be getting worse instead of being fixed.  PLEASE FIX!!!!
