DVR Issues

We have had a lot of issues with our DVR, have gone thru all the steps (rebooting, unplugging, etc.) I requested a new DVR but still having the same issues. This usually occurs when there is a recording in progress. We will hit fast forward or the 30-second skip button and one of two things often happens; 1) it takes us back to the beginning of the recording; 2) it takes us live. We have gotten into the habit of checking the time on our recording in case it does happen so we can go back to the spot we left off. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and/or was able to fix it?

The concern is not "Home Networking" help related........... Topic moved here to the proper help section for assistance.

Chellejohn Hello are you still having issues with your DVR?

Yes, this has been an ongoing issue for us for years; my hubby believes it's a Comcast issue, i think it's our Xfinity DVR which is the reason i replaced it but the issue persists. This only seems to happen when the recording is still in progress, after the recoding is complete we haven't experienced this. We also disengaged the "smart resume" feature thinking this could be the issue but it did not fix it. We have experienced this issue on all of our TV's.

Hello @Chellejohn, just so I can make sure I understand correctly, when you’re recording a show and try to fast-forward through the portion that has already been recorded, it either takes you back to the beginning of the recording or switches to live TV. Is that correct? Or are you saying that while any recording is in progress, and you try to watch any recording that has already been recorded, this happens?

So this only happens when we are watching a recording in progress, for example watching golf the recording is scheduled for ~3 hours. Let's say we're about 2 hours into the show when we start to play the recording. We try to fast forward or use the 30 second skip option and occasionally it will either 1) take us back to the beginning of the recording; or 2) take us to the what would be the end of the current recording (where we are live-about 2 hours in). Hope this makes sense.

Hi there, @Chellejohn Thank you for reaching out regarding your recording concerns. Have you tried to adjust the end time on the recording. To do so, you can go to the show you want to change, then modify recording, you can adjust the amount of minutes at the end of the show. This will allow you to see the ending.-Richard

Hi, perhaps you aren't understanding the issue, the issue is that the DRV when we fast forward or use the 30-second skip either takes us back to the beginning of the game or the end of the recording (live). Also hubby reminded me this can happen on live TV. We'll be watching an NFL pregame show live at 2:00, game starts at 2:30. After the game starts we will hit fast forward and it will take us back to the pregame show that started at 2:00, even though we aren't recording the game.

Since the beginning of the NBA season (October) we have had exactly the same issue with 100% of the Warriors broadcasts. It it totally maddening. You try to go forward 30 seconds and the video is paused for an inconsistent amount of time. Then 10-20% of the time it jumps back top the beginning of the game. You then have to fast forward through the game and hope that you had remembered what game time you were at. 5% of the time, the DVR jumps all the way to the current game time. At that point, the game has been ruined because you know what has happened. This should never, ever happen!!!!!

I find it really interesting that this started soon after Comcast raised the fee to watch Warriors games by about $40/month.

Hi there, I hope your day is going well @user_jh16a. I am sorry to hear that you are having troubles with the DVR service. You are in the right place ans we are happy to assist you. Are you experiencing with all your recordings or just the NBA recordings?

I have only experienced this problem with recordings of NBA games, but I don't watch much other sports, so it may also be happening with other live events. I have gone through all of the online fixes that I can find (system refresh, disabling the auto commercial skip, turning off CEC control). None of this had any effect.

@user_jh16a

Thank you for clarifying,  and for the troubleshooting steps you've already taken, whenever I'm having any kind of issues with my tv services I also like to do a hard reboot on my cable box by unplugging the power cord from the back of the box for 30 seconds and plugging it back in. This can update the firmware and it's a good next step to try to rule out all possibilities.

 Can you give that a try and then test your recordings?

That is the first thing that I did. I normally reboot the X1 about every 2 weeks. No change. This has been going on since about the first week of October 2025.

This happens for all my recordings, NFL, Golf, baseball, basketball. My theory is it would happen for non-sports related recordings too, but usually i don't watch these live (while the recording is still on-going). The reason why it is so annoying when watching a sport event is if it does take you to #2 (where you are live) you may see the final score as @user_jh16a mentioned making the recording un-worthwhile to watch. We have unplugged and have done hard reboots on EVERYTHING. I also replaced the DVR. This has been an ongoing issue for us well before 10/25. I was also thinking it could be an issue with the remote, but we have the new remote on one of our other TV's and it happens on that TV as well.
