DVR is inferior
After 4 boxes, multiple long hold times, a technician who came to our house, stood in our living room on hold for 30 minutes to his superiors, never touched any equipment and left telling us “It will take a long time to fix this.” There are many, many complaints for this problem, but someone managed to close the original complaint, preventing more to add on. The dvr is off by at least 25 seconds and we miss the end of some programs.

It's not the DVR with the timing issue. Many networks run a bit late at times, plus Comcast compresses and merges the bleep out of everything, and that can add 10-20 seconds of extra delay. X1 DVR's do have an option to pad time when possible, which adds 30 seconds to the front and back.
Sadly, over the years, networks now run shows right up to the last second, with overlaid credits. In the past, the credits were separate and you typically didn't notice anything missing unless you want to read the credits.
