Do I need a dvr box

I’m getting conflicting info. I only have one tv (Fire). In order to record multiple shows at the same time and then watch them later do I need a dvr box or will everything be available on the Xfinity stream app? If I need the box is there an additional fee associated with my basic cable package (150 hours of storage is more than enough for my needs).

Hello user_b73fq6 No you don't need a box to record. If you do streaming only then you have the option to record through the app and it will be a cloud based DVR. So that is totally fine to do.

As for boxes, all our new plans do include 1 for free. The older cable plans charge $14/box. So it does depend on what type of plan you currently have.

Thank you for replying. I would be a new customer with 300mbps and local channel package only so if I understand you correctly the only thing I would need is the router and the app to record the six shows at once with 150 hours of storage with no extra charge?
I’m just confused because you say I don’t need a dvr box but then say the cost of the box would be based on my plan? Can you clarify?

@XfinityShawn I received my dvr box today and it is not a wireless box as claimed. I repeatedly asked the sales person because I cannot plug the box into my tv. The installer came out today and said it MUST be plugged into the tv to work. Why was I told differently? Is the installer correct or did he miss something he didn’t know? Is there a workaround?

As far as I know, all X1 boxes use HDMI from the box to the TV.  Some do not use a coax connection to acquire the content.  But, the output to the TV is still wired.
