Do any X1 set top DVRs store tv recordings locally?

Called in this week to ask about getting a better price on my internet/tv service. Wound up getting a deal on a different TV tier (will save me $100 a month) but Xfinity is sending me new X1 boxes. I already have 2 Cisco rgn200n DVR boxes. Mine store recordings locally and have coax connections for the cable input. I don't think I want to use the new boxes if they only store recordings in the cloud. It appears that I still have the same number of channels even though CS said I would get 15 more. I already have my own modem so no issues there. Is DVR playback impacted by being stored in the cloud?

Any opinions as to should I go ahead and use the new ones or keep my current boxes?

Thanks

Hey there @mikearc! Thanks so much for reaching out with these questions on DVR storage capacities on X1!  Our X1 devices do still have local storage capacity, but with our cloud-based- technology, this means that you can access those local recordings via the Xfinity Stream App! You do have to be connected to the home Wi-Fi network for this to be possible.  See our FAQS section on this site and the included excerpt concerning capacity.

Stored Recordings

Storage Capacity: Currently, your X1 DVR can record approximately 150 total hours of HD programming on the hard drive, and 150 hours of Cloud DVR storage per X1 DVR. You can purchase additional Cloud DVR storage hours by visiting www.xfinity.com.

The Cloud DVR storage is accessible anywhere via the Stream App, and is mainly relegated to the Stream App itself. All DVR devices, X1 or not, do have a 1-year timer on recordings for content retention, so anything older than a year will be purged when switching over. However, certain content may still be available via On-Demand or streaming services.
