Cloud recordings no longer support surround sound

I'm being told by support that as of November 2019 surround sound is no longer supported for cloud recordings.  Is this true?  If so, this would be a big step backward.  Why would Comcast remove surround sound functionality?

comcast has said two differnet things so it may be a 'level' of service. For example I have set top boxes and the recordings are physically available with 5.1 (when available). playback on any of the set top boxes are 5.1. playback of the cloud recordings are in 2.0 stereo. In other posts it seems that 'if' you do not have set top boxes (IPTV streaming live TV only), that you do have streaming 5.1 and higher live and recordings. So far there has been no official guidance on this issue.

Thanks, Rustyben.  My scenario is for cloud backup recordings that were originally recorded on my DVR.  The original recordings on the DVR were in 5.1.  But the backup copies in the cloud play only in 2.0 stereo.  This is new, the cloud backups used to be in 5.1.  Is the 5.1 for cloud recordings ever going to come back?

It was confirmed again to me that cloud recordings will not support surround sound for the foreseeable future.  I am very disappointed by the decision to remove yet another functionality that is of value to me.  I object to the price of cable  continuing to go up while the service quality keeps going down.  To whom can I complain?

Agreed. 5.1-channel audio is important for live, dvr, and cloud recordings.
